A rise and Shine Junior School

A school of hope, learning, and dignity at Yamba Hearts for Uganda Center.

At Yamba Hearts for Uganda, we believe every child, regardless of gender, deserves the chance to learn, grow, and build a brighter future. In Mpigi and surrounding areas, many families struggle to afford school fees, uniforms, and basic supplies, forcing children to drop out and risk falling into cycles of poverty. Our Child Sponsorship Program supports children across all levels of education from pre-primary and primary through to secondary school removing financial barriers and giving them the tools to stay in class, thrive academically, and pursue their dreams.Through Arise and Shine Junior School, we invest in early learning to build a strong foundation. This approach equips children with essential skills, prepares them for lifelong education, and helps families become self-reliant. By supporting learners at every stage, we nurture a generation capable of contributing positively to their communities and Uganda’s future.

Why the Need Has Grown

Uganda faced one of the longest school closures in the world during the COVID-19 pandemic lasting over two years. The impact was devastating. Many private and community schools, which depend heavily on tuition to survive, were forced to close permanently. Families lost income. Children lost learning. And hope became harder to hold onto.

As schools around us closed, Yamba Hearts for Uganda stepped in. We recognized the urgent need to give children in and around Lwanga Village a place to learn, grow, and eat consistently. A rise and Shine Junior School became that place.

Every child at A Rise and Shine receives a daily meal, which for many is their most stable and nutritious food of the day. We believe that no child can learn on an empty stomach and every child deserves a fair start.
